What is it really like?
Between the bows... there is group stretching & conditioning, fundamental basic exercises of stances, punches and kicks. Then we separate into specialized groups according to age, rank and ability to learn and improve specific criteria for each group.
Long & Short of Goals... are to learn to stick with something, lose weight & "tone up", flexibility, self defense, and confidence. Karate provides a way to unwind and relieve stress or just something for the individual.
Our Philosophy... is to provide a safe atmosphere where you will learn a systematic process of methods that will improve your overall mental and physical abilities. We are committed to teaching as much as we are to learning.
Instructors... range in ages from 16 to 57 years old. Our current staff of sixteen Black Belts have a minimum of ten years. Our Sensei, Mr. Klinger, has been training since February 1974.
But I always thought...
I am too old…. There are moms and dads who train that are in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s.
It makes kids violent... We teach common sense before self-defense.
My child is not focused enough... Karate teaches focus. That is why so many educational facilities refer children to a martial arts study.
How do I get started....
Our curriculum is designed that a new student can enter the class at any time and not feel lost or uncomfortable. All you need to do is call the academy and set up your introductory month. There is no obligation at any time. The only commitment is the one a student makes towards themselves. It's that simple. You will need to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork.
