Q: “Will Martial Arts, Karate make my kid violent?”
No way! In fact, martial arts makes kids calmer and more respectful than ever. Martial arts always has been about peace, and it always will be.
Q: “Does my child face a risk for injury with Martial Arts, Karate?”
Our program is extremely safe. We have measures upon measures in place to ensure that your child will stay safe, and have a great time. From stretching to warmups to very close supervision - we've got your child covered. Injuries do happen sometimes - but they're quite rare.
Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate fun for children?”
Absolutely! In fact, kids usually have to drag their parents to Martial Arts class - something parents are always shocked to see. We have our serious moments here where kids work and learn... but we have just as many moments where they goof off and have a blast!
Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate a skill / talent that will give my child pride and confidence?”
Yes! A lot of kids perform their martial arts moves in talent shows and other things. Their friends are always blown away. The positive feedback children receive helps build their self-esteem and confidence. Kids feel good knowing they can do something that's "cool and special."
Q: “How old should my child be to start Martial Arts, Karate?”
Any age! Most kids range from 5 to teenagers, but we have kids who are younger, too. Classes are customized to suit children of different ages. A teenager receives very different treatment than a 6 year old, for example.
Q: “Is Martial Arts, Karate for boys AND girls? Or just boys?”
Martial arts are for boys and girls. Our classes have a good mix of both, too. So if you're worried about your girl being alone in a group of boys, wipe that worry from your mind!
Q: “My child isn't athletic. Can they still participate in Martial Arts, Karate if they're not athletic?”
Yes! In fact, martial arts is a beacon of light for kids who just don't fit into team sports. Kids who couldn’t throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is accessible to them. It's something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars. Plus...no one is left out or sits the bench at East West Karate Academy! We make sure everyone gets personal time to work on specific needs for success!

Q: “Can martial arts cause injury?”
Because we place such a huge focus on safety and injury prevention, we're proud to say that injuries are very few and far between with our program. In fact, because martial arts gets you in great shape, and makes you strong and flexible, people often see LESS injuries in their lives.
Q: “What level of fitness is required for Martial Arts?”
People come to us of all fitness levels. We get natural-born athletes, and we get people who have a harder time with athletic endeavors. However, everyone gets the same focus and attention.
If you're not in great shape, don't worry. Go at your own pace, and we'll do everything we can to help you learn each and every technique. Soon enough, your physical fitness will improve, and you'll be in better shape than ever!
Q: “I've heard Martial Arts is violent. Is this true?”
Absolutely not! Martial Arts is about peace, balance & harmony. It's about becoming in touch with your body and all of life. It's about happiness and fulfillment.
The self-defense techniques you learn help you become flexible and strong. They help you become confident and proud.
The guiding principles of Martial Arts help you diffuse situations before violence becomes a part of them. However, if a hostile situation does ever come about, you'll have the tools you need to keep you and your loved ones safe.
