Our First Year at our new Karate Camp location will be at Camp Johnsonburg at 822 Route 519, Johnsonburg, NJ 07825 (822 Hope-Johnsonburg Road, Frelinghuysen Township, NJ)

The website is http://www.campjburg.org/

This is actually our 28th year hosting a Safe and Successful Off-site Karate Camp as East West Karate and I personally have been going to karate camps since 1979.

Karate Camp will begin on a Thursday around Noon, details are being worked out now. Pick up will be on Saturday Night immediately following the Shiai.

I can Guarantee that the Safety of each Child and Camper is taken seriously, I have had kids as young as 4 years old in the past make it through 4 days of Karate Camp and the only tears where from the mom because the child said he didn’t want to leave Karate Camp!

REDUNDUNCY IS MY POLICY!

POOL AREA, LAKE AREA, (The Camp has its own qualified staff as well as my own certified and qualified lifeguards and caregivers) PRIVACY IS DENIED ALWAYS (THAT MEANS THERE IS ALWAYS MORE THAN ONE KID OR ADULT AT ANY TIME WITH EVERYONE) For our younger campers a Black Belt accompanies each group from Bunks to workout areas and remains in the room at night should they need assistance with anything.

We have done this for a long time and we do it RIGHT!

They will grow up a little bit if they are younger and for our Adults it’s time to be a kid again. Please feel free to talk to the many parents that have had their kids attend camp and speak to all of my Black Belts that have attended since they were very young.

It’s a Blast and they will learn a ton.

Deadline to sign up for camp is June 6th!

A Weekend with Shihan Adler http://www.eastwestkaratenj.com/uncategorized/a-weekend-with-shihan-adler/ Sun, 31 Jan 2016 18:26:01 +0000 http://www.eastwestkaratenj.org/?p=98 Continue reading "A Weekend with Shihan Adler"]]> By Katelyn Nieuzytek.. Despite the chilly weather, the weekend was heated with excitement and fun through Shihan Nick Adler’s 2016 Winter Camp, which was held Jan 28-30 in Riverhead New York.  Four students from East West were in attendance, along with Sensei Klinger, and there were many students from the North Jersey area.

The first thing that was stressed in class was the importance of basics and how excellent basics are the foundation to our kata, kumite, and self defense. Shihan then incorporated movement and shifting into our basics; without agility or mobility, it would be extremely difficult to move to an advantageous point in which we could attack.

Later in the day, the black belts were able to work with kamas, which are sharp sickles based on real Okinawan farm tools.  They learned a very old kata called “Tozan”.   Our own black belt, Ms. Cindy Scott, ended up with the short end of the stick when she accidentally cut herself (oops :0).

Those who weren’t black belts learned a Madeyoshi-styled bo kata. Afterwards, we went over self-defense and some grappling techniques with a Jiu-Jitsu master.

The highlight of the seminar was learning a new system of defending from knife threats and attacks.  Shihan Adler taught a single simple technique that could be used to effectively defend in most knife situations.  It was really interesting and fun to practice.

Sensei Klinger taught a session to the entire group on sweeps and takedowns.  He moved so fast!  He showed everyone that high ranking black belts can still move like teenagers.

It was an extremely educational and fun seminar, and hopefully next year we can see more even East West students.
